Top Ten Movies of 2013
I've already posted my awards for the year (check that out if you haven't already), but now I will simply compile my list of the top ten films of the past year, per my opinion. There were a lot of movies I didn't see this year, though, so your favorites might not be on here. Anyway, here they are:
#10 - Star Trek Into Darkness
Comment: An action-packed and compelling sci-fi adventure. Oh, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
#9 - Man of Steel
Comment: The best Superman movie since 1981 - a rock-solid start to the DC Cinematic Universe.
#8 - Pacific Rim
Comment: One of the best monster movies I've ever seen. Also, Michael Bay, please take notes for Transformers 4.
#7 - Prisoners
Comment: This was such a gut-wrenchingly suspenseful and emotional movie. A must-see.#6 - Iron Man 3
Comment: Nearly as good as the first Iron Man. Action-packed and occasionally hilarious.
#5 - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Comment: Much more compelling than the first film thanks to a more in-depth look at the political and social aspects of the book.
#4 - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Comment: I loved this movie. Better than its predecessor in almost every way. Oh, and Benedict Cumberbatch (that's becoming a theme).
#3 - Saving Mr. Banks
Comment: This movie hit me on nearly every emotional level; happiness, sadness, nostalgia, joy...Truly special.
#2 - Gravity
Comment: Intensely gripping, superbly acted, splendidly directed, an eerily realistic setting...this was just an awesome movie.
#1 - Captain Phillips
Comment: Super intense and extremely visceral, this is filmmaking and acting of the highest order. Without a doubt, my favorite film of 2013.
